About Our Platform
- What is EyeOnMajors?
- EyeOnMajors is a fantasy golf platform created by golf fans, for golf fans. We make it easy to host and run golf pools with friends during major tournaments, with live scoring updates and flexible group options.
- Is EyeOnMajors free to use?
- Yes! You can join our Global Pool and create one small private group (up to 5 players) completely free. We also offer affordable hosting options for larger groups and multiple pools.
- What's the deal with the player avatars/images I see on the site?
- The avatar images used in our fantasy golf platform are AI-generated artwork created for entertainment purposes only. These images are randomly assigned to players and do not represent or attempt to represent the likeness of any actual golfer. While that would be neat and interesting, we greatly respect the players' rights and want to honor that. Our intent and goal with EyeOnMajors is, as fans of golf, to create a fun and compelling app to enhance fan enjoyment!
Pool Basics
- How does team selection work?
- Each participant selects six golfers for their team before the tournament begins. Once the tournament starts, these selections are locked in.
- What happens if one of my players withdraws?
- If a player withdraws before the tournament begins, you can replace them if team editing is still open. If they withdraw during the tournament, they'll be treated as missing the cut for scoring purposes.
- How are ties handled?
- Each participant provides a tiebreaker prediction when creating their team (total score relative to par for the tournament winner). In case of tied team scores, the person closest to the actual winning score wins.
- When do pools lock for entries?
- Team selections lock approximately 6 hours prior to the first tee time of the tournament. The British Open lock-in time is slightly closer to the first tee time but will be reported on the team selection page. Make sure to have your team set before then!
- How do you win?
- Winning requires two steps: First, all 6 players on your team must make the cut to stay in contention. Then, your team's total score is calculated by adding up all your golfers' scores (plus any applicable handicaps). The team with the lowest total score wins! If your team has any players who miss the cut, you're automatically out of contention.
- How do I build a winning team?
- The key to success is balancing reliability with upside. While picking all top-ranked golfers helps ensure your team makes the cut, winning pools often requires finding a few less obvious picks who can outperform expectations. Look for golfers with good course history or recent form improvements who might be overlooked by other teams.
Managing Your Pools
- How do I join a pool?
- You can either join our Global Pool (open to everyone), accept an invitation from a friend (free for you!), or enter a group name and password for an existing private pool. Group Admins can send email invites from the Admin tab; Group members can share a link that automatically joins a registered user to that group.
- Can I create my own private pool?
- Yes! You can create private pools and invite friends via email. As the pool creator, you'll be the group admin with special controls.
- How many pools can I join?
- You can join unlimited private pools (if invited) and you can create one free private group. Additional hosting options are available for creating multiple groups, based on subscription.
- How do I invite friends to my pool?
- As a group admin, you can send email invitations directly through the platform. Your invitees will receive instructions to join your group. As a group member, you can copy and send a link to a friend, who will automagically join your group when registered and logged in.
- How do I manage my team selections?
- During the team selection period (before the tournament starts), you can create or edit your team of 6 golfers from your group's leaderboard page. Click 'Create Team' or 'Edit Team' to make your selections. Once the tournament begins, team selections are locked.
- What happens if someone in my pool drops out?
- As a group admin, you can remove inactive members from your group via the Admin tab. This frees up their slot for someone else to join.
Subscriptions & Events
- What happens to my subscription between golf majors?
- It depends on your subscription type. Annual and Club Host subscriptions continue across all four majors in a year, while Major Host subscriptions are for a single tournament.
- Can I still play if I don't have a subscription?
- Absolutely! You can always play for free in two ways: Join any private group you're invited to, or create one small group (up to 5 players) of your own.
- What's the difference between subscription types?
- We offer three hosting tiers: Major Host (good for one tournament, one group, up to 75 players), Annual Host (covers all four majors, 3 groups max, up to 100 players per group), and Club Host (covers all four majors, 20 groups, with unlimited players per group).
- If someone invites me to their group, do I need a subscription?
- No! You can always join and play in friends' groups for free, regardless of subscription status.
- What happens to my group members when my subscription ends?
- For Major Host subscriptions, you'll need to renew for the next tournament. For Annual and Club Host subscriptions, your group continues automatically through all four majors of the year.
Scoring & Handicaps
- How do handicaps work in EyeOnMajors?
- Handicaps are additional strokes that can be assigned to certain golfers by the Group Admin. These strokes are added to a team's total score when that golfer is selected, helping to balance team selection and create more competitive and challenging pools.
- Who sets the handicaps?
- Each Group Admin has full control over handicaps in their pool. They can assign handicaps to up to 5 golfers in the field. It's entirely up to the Group Admin whether to use handicaps and how many strokes to assign. By default, no handicaps are setup for any group.
- Why would we use handicaps?
- Handicaps can make pools more interesting by encouraging diverse team selections. For example, a Group Admin might give the golfer favored to contend in the event a handicap of 3 strokes, making them a less attractive pick compared to other players. Remember, making the cut is the first hurdle, and all 6 players must make the cut to win!

About Us, Fun Facts & Golf History
- What's the story behind EyeOnMajors?
- EyeOnMajors grew from a group of friends who, like many of you, started with paper-and-pen pools that evolved into spreadsheets. As golf fans who happen to include a software developer, we wanted to create something better and share the fun with fellow golf enthusiasts.
- Why is it called EyeOnMajors?
- The story goes back to north suburban Illinois, where two friends, Brad and Mark, grew up playing little league baseball together, and both their dads coached. Brad's dad, known to many as "Mr. Eye" (his actual last name is a bit longer!), was not just a baseball coach but also a passionate golf fan. He had this format for a golf pool that grew from a handful of friends on pen and paper, and we used to trade off being "commissioner" each event. When Mark later became a software developer, he wanted to keep this tradition alive and make it accessible to not only our friends, near and far, but for other golf fans. And so, EyeOnMajors was born - named in honor of the pool Mr. Eye started, and bringing a group of friends together through golf.
- Is it true that father of EyeOnMajors' creator helped Tiger Woods' career momentum? 😉
- Local legend has it he might have! During the 1992 U.S. Junior Amateur at Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Massachusetts, Mark was playing in the group ahead of Tiger. Mark's dad noticed Tiger's group searching for a ball and managed to find it. Who knows what might have happened had Tiger lost that ball so early in the tournament? Tiger went on to defend his U.S. Junior Amateur title that year and eventually won an incredible six consecutive USGA championships. We're not saying his father's eagle eyes changed golf history... but we're not not saying it either! Amazing what effect we can have on each others' lives 🏌️♂️
